The Chrome Rich Notifications Soon Available on All Desktop Platforms

The new Chrome notification center is now available on all three desktop platforms that it supports, with the introduction of the Linux version.

The rich notification center landed on Windows a few weeks back, and recently made its way to Mac OS. Now, it's showing up in the Linux builds too.

Quite obviously, the notification center looks fairly similar in Linux as it does on the other platforms; it's closest to the Windows version.

The new rich notifications center makes it possible for apps and extensions to display, well, rich notifications. Rather than just some text, apps can include images and even buttons, so that users can take action from the notification without having to load the app or switch tabs.

The new rich notification hasn't made it to the dev channel yet, but it's available in cutting-edge Chromium builds.

While the new notifications are great for developers, Google's main reason behind the revamp is Google Now.

The company is still working on integrating Now into Chrome and, while it's making progress, the feature is still not quite ready. The most recent addition is a new option for location sharing with Google services.
