PRISM Causes Traffic Spike for Search Engines StartPage and Ixquick
After DuckDuckGo, another two search engines have noticed a spike in the activity on their sites in the aftermath of the PRISM scandal where three major search engines are involved: Google, Bing (Microsoft) and Yahoo.
StartPage and Ixquick, two small search engines that come from the same company, announced that they have surpassed three million daily searches for the first time ever, SearchEngineLand reports.
Just as with DuckDuckGo, the spike was registered on Wednesday, June 12.
The company’s CEO, Robert Beens, credits the surge in traffic to consumers looking for an alternative search experience after the PRISM scandal hit the media more than a week ago.
The switch from the widely used Google, Bing and Yahoo to these small search engines comes out of concern over data and privacy issues. Considering the size of these two engines, as well as DuckDuckGo, they’re unlikely to be targeted by the U.S. government for any surveillance programs.
