Cirque Du Soleil Performer Killed in Las Vegas Show Accident

For the first time in Cirque Du Soleil’s 30-year history, a performer dies in the middle of the show: this weekend, during the show “Ka” at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Sarah (Sassoon) Guyard fell to her death when the wire she was hanging from “just snapped.”

People magazine reports that the show was canceled immediately. Further performances are now on hold while authorities investigate the accidental death.

Guyard had worked with the acrobatic group since 2006 and was a seasoned performer.

“The entire Cirque du Soleil family is deeply saddened by the accidental death. The artist’s immediate family has been informed of the accident. Our thoughts are with her family and the entire Cirque du Soleil family,” a spokesperson says.

Guy Laliberté, who founded Cirque Du Soleil, has also issued a statement to say, “I am heartbroken. I wish to extend my sincerest sympathies to the family. We are all completely devastated with this news.”

An investigation is now underway to determine what exactly went wrong.

Photoshop CS6 Flickers on MacBook Air 2013 Systems

Adobe has acknowledged a flicker issue with Photoshop CS6 installations on the latest MacBook Air computers from Apple.

The flicker creates screen-wide black boxes, and even the whole screen goes black at times, as shown in the video demonstration above.

Chris Cox with Adobe is convinced that the flicker is “either a bug in the video drivers, or a bad GPU.” After watching the aforementioned footage himself, he said, “that is definitely a driver or GPU issue, though with that kind of flickering I'd also suspect the LCD driver circuits.”

He adds that, whatever is causing this issue, “Apple is the only party that can solve it.” In other words, the issue is not within Photoshop, but within OS X.

MacRumors says “reports have suggested that upgrading to Mavericks solves the problem,” but since Mavericks is in beta testing, this resolution is of little help to end users.

Adobe’s Chris Cox says his company will continue to look into the matter, “and if we find a system that reproduces it, then we can file a bug with Apple and have some hope that they might investigate.”

Security Brief: South Korea Attacks, Opera, Hacked Cars

South Korea has taken the spotlight over the past week due to another series of cyberattacks against high-profile organizations.

It all started at the beginning of the week, when the South Korean government was forced to shut down several of its websites because of cyberattacks.

People were talking about defacement images in which the Anonymous movement took credit for the attacks.

However, after analyzing the incident, experts found that these latest attacks are actually connected to the ones launched in March against South Korean financial institutions and broadcasters.

Symantec has determined that several attacks launched against South Korea over the past 4 years are the work of a cybercriminal group called DarkSeoul.

The gang uses time-triggered malware that’s capable of using compromised computers to launch distributed denial-of-service (DDOS) attacks and erasing information from the infected devices.

In this case, the malware was distributed via the auto-update mechanisms of SimDisk, a South Korean file-sharing and storage service. The hackers compromised the update system and abused it to push the malware, which was designed to step into play only on June 25 at 10 AM.

Pieces of malware were responsible not only for launching the DDOS attacks against the government websites, but also for wiping data from the infected computers, and changing wallpapers to an “Anonymous” image.

In the meantime, Anonymous hacktivists have launched cyberattacks against North Korea. A number of websites have been disrupted.

However, North Korea isn’t too concerned. Instead, it accused the US and South Korea of joining Anonymous in cyber terrorism.

Another interesting hack we’ve seen this week is the one that targeted Opera. The attack was halted and contained, according to Opera, but the cybercriminals still managed to steal an expired digital certificate which they used to sign malware.

Opera said a few thousand customers who used Opera between 1:00 and 1:36 on June 19 might have been infected with the malware.

Experts have analyzed the malicious element and found that it’s designed to steal sensitive information from the infected computers. So should you ditch Opera following this incident? Here’s what experts believe.

Most people are probably aware of the fact that modern cars can be hacked. A couple of famous security experts, Charlie Miller and Chris Valasek, plan to demonstrate it once again at the upcoming DEF CON hacking conference.

And since we’re talking about hacked cars, a former US official says the mysterious death of journalist Michael Hastings might be the result of a car cyber attack orchestrated by US intelligence agencies.

In other news, the Snowden saga continues. While the whistleblower attempts to find a country that would protect him from US authorities, new details about the NSA’s surveillance programs come to light.

Snowden has told a Chinese newspaper that several universities and major mobile phone companies had been hacked by the United States.

It turns out that not all hackers support Snowden’s actions. One of them is the controversial Jester.

As far as law enforcement operations are concerned, 43 individuals have been arrested as part of a Europol-coordinated operation that targeted airline fraudsters. In addition, authorities from all around the world took part in an operation that resulted in the takedown of over 9,000 rogue pharmacy websites.

Finally, US and European law enforcement agencies have seized a total of 328 domains used to sell counterfeit items. This is the latest part of Operation In Our Sights.

The Green iPhone 5S Looks Like This Photo

A new “iPhone 5S” case is making the rounds showing what the device could look like in a vibrant shade of green, seemingly supporting rumors that Apple is expanding the color set of its iPhone range this year.

A lot of rumors are flying around saying Apple will actually go with plastic for the iPhone’s enclosure this year, and the leaks are so abundant that it almost seems a given.

Which makes it at least noteworthy that a new plastic iPhone case has surfaced in photos showing not only how the iPhone 5S might look in green, but also how the components could be arranged inside. To see the inside of the case, click on the image above.

French site Nowhereelse.fr is unsure whether the photos they’ve received are genuine, and I’m just as skeptical. Common sense tells you this may well be a shell for an iPhone clone. The Chinese are famous for that.

Andrei Dumitrescu: This weekend the 100th edition of Le Tour de France starts in Corsica, with cycling becoming the focus of the sports world for the next three weeks as riders tackle stages across France and try to get their hands on the Maillot Jaune, the Yellow Jersey of the leader.

For the past few years I used Pro Cycling Manager 2013, the simulation title from Cyanide, to run my own virtual version of the race, using either a custom team or my current favorite from the peloton, Radiohack Nissan Trek.

The game itself, as the sport of cycling, has a bit of a learning curve but it also delivers an interesting experience, mixing general team tactics with individual effort.

When winning or losing bike racing gets too much I plan to also play a little more Company of Heroes 2, mostly multiplayer as the Germans, focusing on artillery and tank attacks.

I have already reached level 40 and I really want another five in order to unlock the final General for the German forces.

Andrei Dobra: My weekend will be spent with the hilarious Deadpool game as I'm currently approaching the end of the single-player campaign and, so far, the outlandish story and Deadpool's over-the-top nature have made me like the comic book character even more.

While the gameplay isn't exactly up to par with the amusing story, it's pretty decent and there is a bit of depth thanks to the upgrade system.

When I won't be breaking the fourth wall alongside Deadpool, I'll probably jump back into Joe Danger 1 and Joe Danger 2, as there are still plenty of stages where I haven't gotten the maximum rating or all the prizes.

While I expect quite a bit of anger and swearing until I'll get all the rewards, the game is quite fun and I'm sure the effort will be worth it.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2014 Gets Impressive Six Minute Video Detailing Game Mechanics

The development team working on Pro Evolution Soccer 2014 is delivering a six minute video for the upcoming football simulation title that's designed to offer the most important information about its new feature set.

The footage is taken directly from the new Fox Engine and shows how players will perform on the pitch and the various techniques that are being used to bring the PES 2014 experience as close as possible to the real sport.

Quite a bit of the detail offered is arcane and the choice of music is a little unfortunate because it distracts from the lovely gameplay shown, which includes a deep tactical look at how football sims should work.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2014 will face a lot of competition from the EA Sports created FIFA 14, which also comes complete with its new Ignite engine tech.

First Renders of Google's Massive New London HQ Gallery

Google has revealed the first renders of the massive headquarters it's planning in London. The company has been involved in a grand plan to rehabilitate London's King Cross area.

The search giant bought a huge stretch of land there for $1 billion (€765 million) and is building a rather large complex.

The building is stretched out rather than up. It will have 11 stories at most, but will be 330 meters long, longer than the tallest skyscraper in Western Europe is tall.

The company says the new headquarters will house 35,000 people once completed, though, presumably, those won't all be Google employees. The company has about as many employees now, worldwide.

The new headquarters will be environmentally-friendly, of course. The ground floor will be dedicated to cafes and shops and the rooftop will be a garden. Work on the building is expected to start next year and end in 2017.

WikiLeaks Claims It No Longer Represents Edward Snowden

For a short while, it looked like Edward Snowden had found a new best friend in the form of WikiLeaks.

It didn't last long though, as now the organization is distancing itself from the whistleblower, saying that it has decided not to legally represent him and that it has no knowledge of his whereabouts.

The organization may try to put some space between it and Snowden to protect the whistleblower.

"This serves to state that the Law firm ILOCAD has decided not to represent Mr. Snowden, whose whereabouts are unknown," WikiLeaks said in a statement on its site.

"We continue to represent Mr. Assange and WikiLeaks as senior legal counsel in the defence of the fundamental right to freedom of information and expression," Baltasar Garzón, director of the ILOCAD law firm, and Julian Assange's lawyer wrote in the statement.

Over the weekend, he also claimed to represent Snowden, who was fleeing Hong Kong apparently for Ecuador, via Russia.

However, while there were reports of Snowden landing in Moscow and heading for Havana, Cuba, no one has been able to confirm whether he is in Russia or not.

Realistically, Google Is Now Bigger than Apple in the Stock Market [WSJ]

Only a few months ago, Apple was the most valuable company in the world with no way to go but up. Things changed though, and the stock market turned against the company almost as viciously as it was pushing it upwards moments before.

While Apple still sells plenty of devices and still makes a huge amount of money, its market capitalization, based on the price of its shares, has been dropping dramatically.

In fact, when you factor in the amounts of cash Apple is sitting on, which is not insignificant, Google is now more valuable than the former, as the Wall Street Journal notes.

Apple has cash and cash equivalents worth some $145 billion (€111 billion) according to its last quarterly financial report. Google has some $45 billion (€34.4 billion).

If you deduct those sums from the market cap, you get the actual value of a company, as far as investors are concerned. So Google is only worth $242 billion (€185 billion) in the eyes of investors, but Apple is worth just $233 billion (€178 billion).

Sony: Vita Is Good Value, No Price Cut Planned

Guy Longworth, a senior vice president of PlayStation brand marketing for Sony, believes that his company currently has no reasons to cut the price of its PlayStation Vita handheld.

Speaking in an interview to GamesIndustry.biz he states, “We’re about value, we’re trying to offer value.”

He adds, “With PS Vita we feel that $250 is the right price, and I’m not going to comment on where we might go in the future.”

Sony is trying to reposition the handheld as a companion device for the coming PlayStation 4 home console,

The company currently has a rumored policy which asks all third party developers to add at least one feature that uses the Vita in their PS4 titles.

Since it was introduced the handheld has generated smaller than expected sales but Sony has resisted all calls for a reduction in price.

The Wolverine Poster Has Jean Grey Painted in Blood

A new poster for the upcoming “The Wolverine” has been released and it’s perhaps the most striking of the lot. Done in a similar sumi-e style as this one, it has Jean Grey front and center – painted in blood and ink.

Check it out in full above, just click to enlarge.

Collider notes that it’s Fox’s Chief Creative Officer Tony Sella who’s in charge of the sumi-e-style poster campaign, and you just have to admit that he’s done a fabulous job.

Fans of the X-Men franchise will recognize Famke Janssen on the most recent release, as Jean Grey, Logan / Wolverine’s lost love.

The fact that there’s blood on the poster makes me think of the worst, I have to admit.

“Based on the celebrated comic book arc, this epic action-adventure takes Wolverine, the most iconic character of the X-Men universe, to modern day Japan. Out of his depth in an unknown world he faces his ultimate nemesis in a life-or-death battle that will leave him forever changed,” reads a brief synopsis of the film.

Sakurai: New Super Smash Bros. Will Be a Fun Game with Mass Appeal

Despite the trend towards niche fighting games in the industry, the development team at Nintendo working on the new Super Smash Bros. wants to make sure that the experience has a broad appeal and delivering plenty of fun moments.

Masahiro Sakurai, one of the creators of the franchise, tells Kotaku that, “Basically, Smash Bros. is designed to be sort of targeted at the centre, intermediate players, and if you think of sort of a skill graph or something where if you’re targeting just the peak of that performance level, you’re targeting a very small group of people.”

Traditionally the most successful fighting game series, like Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter, tended to focus on very precise movement and use of special powers that drove away many players who were only interested in a more casual experience.

Sakurai adds, “We wanna avoid a situation where it becomes a game sort of like other competitive fighting games, where it’s only appreciated by a very small, passionate group of sort of maniac players. We definitely don’t want that sort of situation. It’s supposed to be a fun game for a wide variety of people.”

Sakurai believes that very capable players will be able to test their skills against one another but the vast majority of gamers will still have a chance to defeat them via good movement and positioning.

The developer says that Super Smash Bros. will also benefit from its focus on vertical level design, which makes the entire experience more competitive.

At the same time better collision detection for the Wii U and 3DS game will make all other mechanics easier to master.

The game is expected to launch in 2014.

The two versions of Super Smash Bros. will not have cross-platform play, but gamers will be able to export and import custom-made characters.

Dragon Age: Inquisition Is Not a Direct Series Sequel, Says EA

Video game publisher Electronic Arts is not using the III in the title of the new Dragon Age: Inquisition in order to make sure that players understand that the new game will not be a direct sequel for the franchise.

Frank Gibeau, the leader of the EA Labels division, tells IGN that, "We just wanted to draw more attention to the fact that Inquisition is an all-new chapter inside of the Dragon Age universe, as opposed to people expecting a follow-on to Dragon Age 1 and 2 in a literal, linear sense."

The game was re-announced during E3 2013 and is set to use the new Frostbite 3 engine, taking players to Orlais.

Developer BioWare has not offered any clear details on the plot or the mechanics.

Bison Are Shrinking, Climate Change Is to Blame

A team of researchers writing in a recent issue of the scientific journal PLOS ONE detail how, because of the new weather patterns brought about by climate change and global warming, both bison and other grazing animals presently inhabiting the Great Plains have started to shrink.

Researcher Joseph Craine with the Kansas State University explains that, all things considered, bison and other such animals born over the course of the next 50 years will be significantly smaller than past generations.

He and his colleagues maintain that this will happen because the grass these animals rely on in order to develop and grow will get less nutritious as the years go by.

“We know that temperatures are going to go up. We also know that warmer grasslands have grasses with less protein, and we now know that warmer grasslands have smaller grazers,” Joseph Craine argued.

“It all lines up to suggest that climate change will cause grasses to have less protein and cause grazers to gain less weight in the future,” he went on to say.

As explained on the official website for the Kansas State University, these assumptions are backed up by data collected while monitoring a total of 22 bison herds spread across the entire territory of the United States.

Thus, bison living in slightly warmer regions were found to weigh less than those inhabiting cooler ones.

The specialists say that this was because the grass they fed on contained fewer nutrients.

Both Joseph Craine and his fellow researchers fear that, as bison and other grazing animals begin to shrink because of climate change, both local biodiversity and local economy will be affected.

“Bison are one of our most important conservation animals and hold a unique role in grasslands in North America.”

“In addition to their cultural and ecological significance, they're economically important both from a livestock perspective and from a tourism perspective,” Joseph Craine wished to stress.

Xperia U (ST25) Receives New Firmware Update, Version 6.1.1.B.1.100

Japanese mobile phone maker Sony Mobile has reportedly started to push out a new software update for the owners of the Xperia U (ST25) smartphone, namely firmware version 6.1.1.B.1.100.

Unfortunately, the new software flavor is still based on the Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system version, and keeps the 3.0.8 kernel, as XperiaBlog notes in a recent post.

Apparently, no specific info on what was included in the new release when compared to the previously available firmware version 6.1.1.B.1.89 for the device has been provided as of now.

However, it seems that the update might have packed various minor bug fixes and enhancements inside.

Users should already see the update arriving on their Xperia U (ST25) handsets, although it’s yet uncertain how long it will take for it to become available for all of them.

Sloth Bear Cub Makes First Public Appearance at Smithsonians National Zoo

Visitors to the Smithsonian’s National Zoo can now catch a glimpse of an adorable sloth bear cub born about six months ago, on December 19, 2012.

Only 18 zoos across the United States presently exhibit this species, which is why people will most likely flock to see Hank, as this sloth bear cub is named.

Zoo staff explain that the cub has spent the past six months hidden in a den together with its mom, Hana.

Now that is has finally emerged from its hiding place, it seems eager to explore its surroundings and show off its climbing skills.

“Sloth bears in general are full of personality, but watching Hank explore and play in his yard is especially endearing,” keeper Mindy Babitz said.

Despite being very young, Hank has already learned to show some body parts or open his mouth on command.

Its caretakers explain that this will help them better evaluate its health as Hank continues to grow.

Michael Jackson Went Without Sleep for 60 Days Video

Testifying in court in the wrongful death trial against AEG Live, expert Dr. Charles Czeisler told the court that Michael Jackson had been displaying classic symptoms of sleep deprivation over a long period of time because of Dr. Conrad Murray’s illegal practices.

Practically, as the CNN video below will confirm, by administering to the singer the powerful anesthetic Propofol for 60 days in a row, Dr. Murray made it impossible for Michael to get any real sleep.

He would sleep, that much is sure, but he would not go through all the stages: he would not get REM sleep, which is essential for the health of the mind and body.

According to Dr. Czeisler, if Michael had not died of a Propofol overdose, the sleep deprivation would have killed him in a matter of days either way.

Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag Multiplayer Naval Battles Didn't Work

Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag Game Director Ashraf Islamil admitted that multiplayer naval battles were considered for the upcoming title but, during the development, the experiences didn't work as intended.

Assassin's Creed 4 takes the naval mechanic of its predecessor and puts it into the spotlight, as players take control of pirate assassin Edward Kenway, who commands his ship around the Caribbean.

While traveling on the sea is important in the single-player, the multiplayer won't have any naval battles as Ubisoft didn't manage to make them work.

"Naval multiplayer, unfortunately, we don't have it," Ismail told GameSpot. "It's something we tried at the beginning, but we didn't feel we can get it to a good enough level for this iteration."

Ismail's statement leaves the door open for online naval battles in the next installments of the Assassin's Creed franchise, as Ubisoft already confirmed that more games are in development.

Apple 1 Computer to Go Under Hammer at Christie's

An Apple 1 from 1976 is going up for auction at Christie’s next week and they expect to get at least $500,000 (€380,700) on the decades-old device.

One of the first computers ever built by college dropouts Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak is going under the hammer next week and the bidding starts at $300,000 (€228,427), Detroit News reports.

“This is a piece of history that made a difference in the world, it’s where the computer revolution started,” the computer’s owner said.

The computer doesn’t look much like anything you’re used to nowadays from Apple. The green piece of plastic is covered with a grid of memory chips and a bunch of wires.

It was sold for $666 (€507) and only about 200 were made. However, most have disappeared over the decades, while some have been kept safe in wares.

Another Apple 1 was sold last month for $671,400 (€511,220) in Germany, setting up a record for similar auctions.

Opera Repackages Firefox's PDF.js Viewer as an Extension for Its New Browser

The new Opera 15 may be based on Chrome, but the browser maker isn't copying all of the features – sometimes by choice, sometimes because it can't. One area where Opera is striking out on its own is the PDF viewer.

Google Chrome comes with a built-in PDF viewer, which is a plugin that ships with the browser and runs in the sandbox. It's built by Google, unlike the bundled Flash plugin, but not with web technologies.

However, Opera chose to borrow Firefox's much more web-friendly approach and package PDF.js, the PDF viewer in Firefox, as an extension for Opera.

Considering that PDF.js, as the name implies, is built with JavaScript and that all the content is displayed with standard HTML and CSS, the approach made a lot of sense for Opera, particularly because Opera extensions, like the Chrome ones, are built with web technologies.

The PDF.js extension, dubbed simply PDF Viewer, is published by Opera itself. Since PDF.js is open source, as Mozilla intended all along, Opera was able to grab the code and simply package it as an Opera extension.

Apple's 802.11ac MacBook Airs Have Wi-Fi Problems

Apple would have loved to get its latest MacBook Air laptops selling without any problems, but buyers seem to have found a problem with them: the wireless connectivity.

The new 802.11ac connection works fast, no doubt about it, but it has problems.

In a thread on the Apple Support Communities website, people have been reporting an issue on the 11-inch and 13-inch updated notebooks.

A store in London has even revealed, to Gizmodo, that it has also got complaints.

In layman terms, the problem is that the wireless connection drops unexpectedly, regardless of the router. Even Apple's own AirPort accessories are affected.

While the initial Wi-Fi network connection is established without fuss, it cuts off after a short time.

We'll have to keep an eye out for further developments. The updated MacBook Airs have been out for just a week, so Apple should be able to recall and fix the laptops, and remove the flaw from the unsold ones, easily enough.

Domain Name Registrar Moniker Hacked, Users Forced to Change Passwords

Domain name registrar Moniker has started notifying customers that its systems have been hacked. As a precaution, all passwords are being reset.

“Moniker’s Operations & Security team has discovered and blocked suspicious activity on the Moniker network that appears to have been a coordinated attempt to access a number of Moniker user accounts,” the company said in the notification sent to customers.

“While our password encryption measures are robust, we are taking additional steps to ensure that your personal data and domains remain secure. This means that, to be absolutely sure of the security of your account, we are requiring all users to reset their Moniker account password,” Moniker said.

The registrar says that it hasn’t found any evidence to suggest that domains have been lost or transferred. The company believes that confidential and payment card information has not been compromised.

Moniker has alerted appropriate authorities on the matter.

While it’s a good thing that the company has rushed to notify customers, the emails they’ve sent out might be problematic for some users.

As Conrad Longmore of Dynamoo’s Blog notes, while the emails instruct customers to go to moniker.com to change their passwords, the links contained in the emails actually lead to t.lt02.net.

t.lt02.net is a domain owned by VertexInternet, a company that runs an email marketing system called Listrak, which is being utilized to send out the notification emails to Moniker customers.

The suspicious-looking domain might lead many recipients to believe that the notifications might be part of a clever phishing scam, especially since users are aware that such incidents usually attract the attention of cybercriminals.

“If you are going to send out a message like this, make sure that all the links go to a site that the recipient would recognise. In this case the sensible option would be to link directly to moniker.com. I'm betting that quite a few people will ignore this message and then wonder why they cannot log into their accounts at a later date,” Longmore said.

Microsoft: Xbox One 180 on DRM Motivated by Player Feedback

Today Microsoft has announced that it is reversing its stance on Digital Rights Management for the coming Xbox One home console, in a move that has surprised many players.

This means that the console does not need to connect to the Internet every 24 hours and there are no restrictions to trading and lending game disks.

Don Mattrick, the president of the Interactive Entertainment Business division, explains that, "You told us how much you loved the flexibility you have today with games delivered on disc. The ability to lend, share, and resell these games at your discretion is of incredible importance to you."

He adds, "Also important to you is the freedom to play offline, for any length of time, anywhere in the world."

The Xbox 180 move, as fans are calling the announcement, means that Microsoft's policies are roughly equivalent to those of the PlayStation 4 from Sony.

The Pure-Web Feedly and the Feedly Cloud Go Live, Days Before the Google Reader Apocalypse

Feedly has announced that the "Feedly Cloud," i.e. the company's replacement for the Google Reader API, is now live. The new Feedly cloud makes it possible to sync feeds and read items between devices.

The cloud is also available to other apps via an API. Several developers are already working with it, and more will follow.

While the cloud is now live, existing Feedly users haven't been ported to it just yet. This will happen over the next few days. Once that's accomplished, there will be no more syncing between Google Reader and Feedly, even if Reader is still up.

Along with the cloud, Feedly is also debuting the latest version of its reader that doesn't require an extension. In fact, new users can go straight to Feedly.com and start using the new app and the new cloud.

A new smartphone from Nokia has received the necessary approvals from the FCC, namely the Nokia RM-941, which is said to be only a mid-range device.

Adobe's Creative Cloud Is Here with New Versions of All the Apps

Adobe's Creative Cloud was announced a month ago, and it is now becoming available to everyone. With the new Creative Cloud, despite the name, Adobe isn't switching to a new software model, just a new payments model.

Customers will still be able to use the same old Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere, and so on, but will have to pay a monthly subscription rather than buy them outright.

Adobe does offer some cloud options with the new apps, i.e. cloud storage and sharing, but nothing compelling enough to warrant this big change. The motivation behind the move is revenue and revenue alone.

That said, Creative Cloud subscribers are now able to get their hands on the latest Photoshop CC, Illustrator CC, InDesign CC, Adobe Muse CC, Dreamweaver CC, Edge Animate CC, Adobe Premiere Pro CC, After Effects CC, and other tools normally included in the Creative Suite.

The "cloud" part takes the form of a Dropbox clone which offers file sync and sharing, but this is just for the web, as the desktop app doesn't support file syncing just yet. Settings, custom brushes, and so on, will also be synchronized between devices.

Finally, subscribers also get a Behance profile to showcase their work.

Firefox to Get "Close Tabs to the Left" Feature

As in most things, in browsers, it's the little things that count. Most modern browsers are fast, most can handle what the web can throw at them and most are reasonably feature-rich. For most people, the choice of prefered browser comes to familiarity and small, but useful features.

Firefox is now adding one of those small and useful features that make a difference, a "Close Tabs to the Right" feature.

This has happened to virtually everyone: you go to one page and, before you know it, you have 10 tabs opened with links from that page.

And, more often than not, when you're done with them you want to close them and go back to what you were doing.

But this either means closing them one at a time or closing the whole browser window which sometimes contains tabs you still need.

The "Close Tabs to the Right" feature fixes this. Since Firefox, by default, opens new tabs to the right of the current one, the tabs you want to close are all to the right. That said, for those using a right-to-left locale, the feature is labeled "Close Tabs to the Left."

The feature is now in Firefox 24 Nightly, which means it should land in the main stable channel in 12 weeks or so. The feature is already available in Chrome for example.

Galaxy S4 LTE-Advanced Model Coming Soon [Reuters]

South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung Electronics is getting ready for the launch of a new Galaxy S4 model, one that will land on shelves with support for LTE-Advanced connectivity, and which might hit shelves before the end of this month.

The handset should arrive on shelves with the same specs as the Galaxy S4, except for the faster connectivity capabilities, a recent article on Reuters notes.

Apparently, JK Shin, the co-CEO of Samsung Electronics, has already confirmed the upcoming availability of the new mobile phone, suggesting that wireless carriers in South Korea could launch it before the end of June.

The new flavor of the mobile phone will arrive on shelves with a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor packed inside, and should provide users with data transfer speeds of up to two times faster than those delivered by the current 4G LTE variant.

Rage, a USB 3.0 Flash Drive from Patriot, Bundled with HAWKEN

For whoever isn't familiar with the name, HAWKEN is an online multiplayer action game involving mechs. It's the sort of thing teenagers, especially those from Japan, are likely to go crazy about.

Patriot decided to take advantage of the strength of the brand and boost its sales a bit, so it made a partnership, of sorts, with Meteor Entertainment.

The company has released the Rage XT USB 3.0 flash drive, which ships with a 7-day HAWKEN Double XP Boost for the extremely popular multiplayer mech combat video game.

It might not seem like such a big deal (it's not like the buyers are getting the game for free or anything after all), but it's enough to raise awareness.

"The Patriot Supersonic RAGE XT epitomizes excellent USB 3.0 performance, durability, and portability," said Meng Jay Choo, product manager at Patriot.

"Meteor's HAWKEN is one of the fastest multiplayer games on the planet. Partnering the two products to create this exclusive bundle offers game centric consumers something truly special."

The Rage XT flash drive has a slide-to-connect design, up to 64 GB storage space, Plug and Play Compatibility, backwards compatibility with USB 2.0, high data speeds (up to 180MB/s read, 50MB/s write) and a 5-year warranty.

The Supersonic Rage XT (this is the full name) even has a rubberized outer housing.

"Patriot is creating gamer-focused technology that makes our game look great and play at high frame rates, two things that our audience demands," said Paul Loynd, producer, HAWKEN.

"Combining an XP boost with the Rage XT drive means that not only will new HAWKEN pilots level up more quickly, but they'll also be in the game and playing that much faster."

For anyone unfamiliar with the game, HAWKEN allows players to enter the cockpit of a customizable giant mech and fight in various game arenas and modes. Experience determines the rate of acquiring new abilities and technologies.

Sales of the Supersonic Rage XT are already underway in the US for $59.99 / €45 – 59.99.

Xbox One Is Steam in Console Form, Says Microsoft Engineer - Report

A document coming from a self-proclaimed Microsoft engineer says that the coming Xbox One is pretty much a console implementation of all the features the Steam has already brought to digital distribution.

The Pastebin document also says that Microsoft wants to move the entire gaming industry towards the digital space but it has a difficult time converting retailers and publishers of its advantages.

The Microsoft engineer says, "The only diff is steam you have to sign in before playing, and Xbox does it automatically at night for you (once per 24 hours). It’s a long tail strategy, just like steam."

It's impossible to actually verify the identity of the man who actually created the document or the accuracy of the information but many talking point mesh well with what Microsoft has been saying about the Xbox One.

No Plans to Bring Total War: Rome 2 to Xbox One or PS4, Says Developer

The team at The Creative Assembly wants Total War: Rome 2 to be the biggest PC based video game of the year and it seems that despite the introduction of the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 there's no chance of seeing the game on next gen devices.

Jamie Ferguson, the leading battle designer working on the game, tells Joystiq that, "It's one of those things where we have to find something that doesn't end up being a compromise."

He adds, "If we ever do find that secret formula, then that's probably the time when you'll see a Total War on a console."

The Creative Assembly has usually said consoles failed to offer the computing power needed for a Total War title.

I got to play Total War: Rome 3 during E3 2013 and managed to take a good look at its new strategic map.

This Is the New Windows 8.1 App Store Photo Gallery

Just like many other built-in features, the Windows Store is going to be redesigned in Windows 8.1, especially because Microsoft wants users to find the apps they're looking for a bit easier.

As you can see in this photo gallery, the new Windows Store indeed seems to adopt a more modern look, together with a cleaner approach that brings the main features of the selected apps in the spotlight.

Facebook Is Probably Launching a Google Reader Competitor

Facebook is unveiling something next week. It's not saying, what obviously, but it has invited the press to come and see the shiny new product. Like every time a company makes an invitation like this, the speculation ran wild.

But this time around, there wasn't much to speculate on. There haven't been that many rumors about Facebook products or features for the past few months, especially now that the "Facebook phone" made its debut.

A few days ago though, one developer noticed something interesting in Facebook's source code, mentions of a RSS feed.

This, just as Google is getting ready to pull the plug on Google Reader, claiming that it's just not popular enough.

Plenty of small companies and even the new Digg said they're more than happy to welcome the million of users Reader still has.

But everyone agrees that the market is small and that RSS is long past its prime and has never reached its potential.

So Facebook reviving a decade-old technology seems odd. So it's unlikely that Facebook is unveiling a traditional news reader akin to Google Reader.

However, that's not to say that it's not building a news reader of any sort. In fact, there's been quite a deluge of mobile news readers aimed at keeping users informed without overloading them with news.

Facebook has access to plenty of data on what users read and share and its algorithms are purposely designed to discover the stories that people are most interested in, be them a new song from a favorite band, a friends vacation photos or a news story someone shared.

It should be fairly easy to apply that knowledge to a full news feeds, powered by RSS, and come up with an interesting product. In fact, TechCrunch is convinced that this is what Facebook is launching next week.

Facebook could do some interesting things with news. But the company's track record on the matter hasn't been great. It built a photo sharing app that no one uses around the time it bought Instagram. And it built a video sharing app when it couldn't buy Snapchat.

PRISM Causes Traffic Spike for Search Engines StartPage and Ixquick

After DuckDuckGo, another two search engines have noticed a spike in the activity on their sites in the aftermath of the PRISM scandal where three major search engines are involved: Google, Bing (Microsoft) and Yahoo.

StartPage and Ixquick, two small search engines that come from the same company, announced that they have surpassed three million daily searches for the first time ever, SearchEngineLand reports.

Just as with DuckDuckGo, the spike was registered on Wednesday, June 12.

The company’s CEO, Robert Beens, credits the surge in traffic to consumers looking for an alternative search experience after the PRISM scandal hit the media more than a week ago.

The switch from the widely used Google, Bing and Yahoo to these small search engines comes out of concern over data and privacy issues. Considering the size of these two engines, as well as DuckDuckGo, they’re unlikely to be targeted by the U.S. government for any surveillance programs.
