PRISM: Russia Seeks International Allies to Investigate Data Leaks

It’s been a month since it was revealed that the NSA was running several data collection programs that focus on users from all over the world, and the Russian authorities are trying to find international allies to investigate the issue.

The main concern for the Federation Council, the upper house of the Russian parliament, is to investigate the Internet companies that have been providing the data of the country’s citizens to the U.S. security services, Itar-Tass reports.

Senators are now forming special working groups, which will be approved soon, in order to continue investigations.

“Now we are getting in touch with lawmakers of other countries, first of all Europe and the experts, including from the United States, are getting in contact with us. Meanwhile, this is not just political activists, but the officials of the largest U.S. scientific institutions,” said Ruslan Gattarov, head of the interim Federation Council committee for the development of the information society.

Furthermore, he hopes that when Snowden settles his legal status, he will choose to cooperate with the committee since they claim not to pursue national or state interest, but rather the inviolability of personal data.
