Netflix Stops Third-Party Apps from Tracking When Titles Expire

Third-party Netflix apps will no longer be able to track when streaming titles are set to expire after the company updated its API.

The company will no longer relay when titles are set to expire from its streaming library, the Netflix API Developer Blog reveals.

The move comes after expiration data collected via the API revealed that Netflix would be losing nearly 2,000 titles from its streaming library over the course of the month.

“We are making this change because the expiration date can be inaccurate as a result of frequent, often last minute, changes in content flow,” Daniel Jacobson, director of engineering at Netflix, said in the blog post.

However, he says, Netflix members will still be able to see the listed title expirations on Netflix.com on each individual title page.
