Second-Gen Nexus 7 to Get Qualcomm Chipset Instead of Nvidia

We reported yesterday that Asus is already working on the next Nexus 7, which will feature improved hardware. The tablet is expected to go on sale in May for a suggested retail price of $250/ €195.

According to Digitimes, Asus decided to include a Qualcomm chipset inside its Nexus 7 tablet instead of Nvidia.

Sources from the upstream supply chain claim the reason behind Asus’ decision has something to do with the chips’ communication integration process.

Basically, the lack of 4G LTE on Nvidia’s chip made Asus choose Qualcomm over the former. Moreover, given the fact that prices for both chipsets are almost similar, the decision was made fast and without remorse.

Even though Nvidia announced the Tegra 4i chipset with 4G LTE, sources close to the matter claim the processor won’t be ready until the second-gen Nexus 7 is expected to arrive on the market. Stay tuned for more updates on the matter.
