Google Trials Free Same-Day Delivery in San Francisco, to Compete with Amazon

Google's still denying that it has any plans to go into ecommerce and take on Amazon, but its actions make it harder and harder. It's now offering free shipping in San Francisco, on a trial basis, for products bought from a number of retainers.

"Today we're starting a new experiment, Google Shopping Express. It's a local delivery service that we hope will make it possible for you to get the items you order online the same day, and at a low cost," Google explained.

"It's incredibly early days and so the service is only available to a small number of people in the Bay Area," it added.

The company partnered with Target, Walgreens, Staples, American Eagle and Toys“R”Us/Babies“R”Us as well as some smaller local shops for this.

Anyone in the Bay Area interested in the service can apply for the trial. The service is free for the first six months and Google could charge later.

There have been several rumors about the service. It's said that Google Shopping Express will be cheaper than Amazon Prime, its main competitor.
