Alpine Linux 2.6.2 Gets a New and Fresh Kernel


The Alpine Team announced on July 3 that Alpine Linux 2.6.2, a community-developed operating system designed for x86 Routers, Firewalls, VPNs, VoIP and servers, is available for download.

Alpine Linux 2.6.2 is just a bug fix release, which means there are only a few bugs that have been fixed and a handful of updated packages.

Highlights of Alpine Linux 2.6.2:

• The Linux kernel has been updated to version 3.9.8;
• Various Xen related security fixes have been implemented;
• ncurses-terminfo has been added as a dependency;
• Alternative combinations are now allowed in the terminal;
• phpMyAdmin has been updated to version 4.0.3;
• An ipv6 related startup crash has been fixed;
• Sudo has been updated to version 1.8.7.
