Ecuadorian Embassy in London Was Bugged

As the European Union is boiling with anger after documents leaked by Edward Snowden revealed that the United States has placed electronic surveillance equipment inside embassies and diplomats’ offices, Ecuador says it already discovered such a device.

A hidden microphone has already been discovered in the Ecuadorean ambassador’s office in London, announced Ricardo Patino, the country’s Foreign Minister, RT reports.

“We regret to inform that we have found a hidden microphone in the London embassy,” Patino said during a press conference, stating that he will reveal the origin of the security breach later on Wednesday.

According to Patino, the device was discovered three weeks ago during a routine check ahead of his visit to London.

“I did not bring this up before because I didn’t want my visit to London to hold talks on Julian Assange to be confused with accusations over this surveillance device found in the ambassador’s office,” Patino said.

He claims that this discovery is a testament to the loss of ethics at an international level in the relations that we have with other governments.

The London embassy has been the home of WikiLeaks’ Julian Assange for the past year.
