Regular iPhone 5 Users Are Actually Pleased with iOS Maps, Says Viewpoints
Viewpoints has released the results of a recent poll of iPhone 5 reviewers, noting that Apple’s latest smartphone is getting accolades from regular users for its speed, call clarity, battery life, and even the Maps application.
Viewpoints, a consumer reviews and product rankings website, reports that the 32GB version of the iPhone 5 is rated 94/100 - ten points higher than the average smartphone rating.
Based on consumer sentiment, the most significant changes from the iPhone 4S (besides the obviously-larger display) are the faster A6 processor and the ability to use fast 4G LTE networking.
On battery life, nearly everyone found it stronger compared to older iPhones.
A user identified as TerryNakagawa said, “With Wi-Fi turned on, playing games, accessing the web and on a hour-long conference call, the battery never faltered. After 24 hrs and heavy use, more than 60% power still available.”
According to Kyrshen, the phone went from 5am until midnight, with the user saying “can't complain about that.” Of course, that’s under a day of usage, but the user probably used it all day long.
On the Maps thing, Viewpoints reports it best (below).
Apple replaced Google Maps with its own program, which lacks functionality, like display of public transportation, an "epic fail" according to one reviewer. The maps do offer turn-by-turn directions, as well as restaurants as landmarks. Most Viewpoints reviewers aren't inconvenienced and like the look.
The company quotes a user going by the Internet handle GibOlander as saying that “The new Apple Maps are just stunning, the 3D angle and flying sensation are terrific.”
“Sure, there's hubbub around Apple Maps,” said another. “But think of it this way… the iPhone 5 has more computing power than NASA did when they sent a man to the moon in 1969. The phone is spectacular,” wrote rma288.
In reporting their findings, Viewpoints General Manager Denise Chudy said, “Based on early reviews, people are obviously passionate about the iPhone 5. It's our hope that those insights help others decide if the iPhone 5 is the right choice for their needs and budget.”
